| FIREPLACE MANTEL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
How do I order a fireplace mantel?
Call our office and we will draft a quote with the cost of the mantel, optional hearth, any customizing, the crate, and shipping to your job site. When you are ready for us to start your order just send in the deposit.
Are there any costs other than the mantel?
Yes, there is a crating charge of $200 per crate. A typical fireplace mantel requires only one crate, however, several of the large mantels require two crates. Hearths can be packaged, in most cases, within the one mantel crate. There is a freight cost which varies according to location and the weight of the fireplace mantel chosen.
Who installs the fireplace mantel?
A stone mason is the best choice to install a cast stone fireplace mantel. An advisor from our office is always available to offer technical support in the installation of our product. An installation video, VHS or DVD, will be provided at the time of purchase.
How is the fireplace mantel installed?
Mantels arrive in separate stones and are anchored to the wall and mortared together. An installation video, VHS or DVD, is provided at time of purchase.
Is there a finish required?
No. Our cast stone has a "honed limestone" finish. It can be antiqued, faux finished or distressed to give it the patina of age. Sealing is highly recommended since all limestone is porous and subject to staining. Any high quality, clear, matte finish stone sealer may be used.
What is the fireplace mantel made of?
Each mantel is made of real Cast Stone, a man made limestone process that has been around over 600 years. This is a labor intensive process, but it's worth it for the finished mantel is so similar to cut limestone its hard to tell the difference and the price is a fraction of the cost of cut limestone. No finish is required. Cast Stone is a non-combustible product and can be used directly next to the firebox opening. This eliminates the need and cost of other interior surrounds that are required with a wood or plaster mantel.
Do you do custom work?
If you are unable to find a style you are looking for in our product line, we will be happy to give you a bid on your custom design.
Are there different colors?
We carry two colors, cream and buff. Any fireplace mantel can be made in either color. The most commonly chosen color is cream. There is a $100 up charge for the buff. If you are interested, we will be happy to send you samples of the material.
What can be done if the firebox opening does not fit your situation?
If the fireplace mantel you desire does not appear to fit our specifications, call us. Often we are able to alter the mantel in such a manner that we retain the integrity of the design while fitting your individual needs. Height of firebox openings can be altered in most cases. We can also adapt overmantels to go with most of our designs.
What happens if the shipment arrives with broken pieces?
All claims on apparent or concealed shipping damage to the mantel must be reported to Old World Stoneworks within 7 days of delivery. Old World Stoneworks will replace any broken stones to you at no charge usually within 10 days. Please save all broken stones and all packaging material so we can make a claim with the freight company.
What is the lead time for my mantel?
Allow 4 to 6 weeks for production of your fireplace mantel. Please let us know if you are in a rush and we will do whatever we can to accommodate your time frame.
How is the fireplace mantel delivered?
Our products are manufactured in Dallas, Texas and shipped by common carrier to almost everywhere in the continental United States. Your truck driver will not take the crate off the truck for you. We always ask that the trucking company use a lift gated truck for delivery, but this is not always possible, so please have 2 or 3 men ready to unload the mantel from the trucker's tailgate. In rare cases where the location is remote or in residential areas that do not allow large trucks the customer may have to arrange secondary delivery. If you are not ready for shipment from our factory at the date specified on your invoice, we can hold your order up to four weeks, provided the order is paid in full.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Old World Stoneworks products are warranted to be free from defect, except those color variations typical to Cast Stone. Any defective products will be replaced. You might notice that we do not use an "order form" per se. Each Old World Stoneworks order amounts to a custom product. By placing orders by phone one of our professional staff can talk directly to you, the buyer, and walk you through the many unique options available assuring you of the best application possible.
